A 50% split of $6,000 in services is $3,000, plus 15% of $300 in product — $3,045. Tips are the barber’s own and stay out of the split.
If you’re weighing commission against chair rent, the barbershop guide works through both with the same numbers.
Common questions
What is a normal barber commission split?
50/50 is the most common starting point, with 60/40 in the barber’s favour for experienced barbers or as a tier for a strong month.
Commission or booth rent?
On commission the shop sets prices and schedule and the barber is usually an employee; on booth rent the barber pays a fixed amount and keeps their revenue. The barbershop guide compares them.
Who pays card fees on tips?
Whether a shop can pass card fees for tips on to the barber depends on the state. Check before deducting anything.
